On December 23, HCMC People’s Committee organize a workshop “development policies and mechanisms for Southern key economic zone”. Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Dinh La Thang chaired the workshop.

At the workshop, delegates said the lack of closely regional connectivity is the reason why cities and provinces in the South cannot bring into play their strengths. Currently, there is only one closely connectivity between HCMC with each province but not regional connectivity.

May delegates suggested that the Central Government will arrange for a Deputy Prime Minister to provide guidance on each region, of which HCMC plays the role of a driving force. At the same time, it is necessary to give autonomy and self-determination to localities in using the budget, mobilizing capital, training human resource.

In his closing speech, Mr. Dinh La Thang said localities in Southern key economic zone have not yet evaluated the potential of this zone, failed to specify or build specific policies and mechanisms, failed to work arrange for human resource effectively.

He requested each locality to raise awareness, to build mechanisms accompanied with efficiency of each locality and of the whole region as an open exclusive economic zone. Besides, localities continue doing research, proposing to supplement key policies, attracting investment into industries with high content of high technology, creating high added value suitable with transformation of regional structure.
