On February 24, HCMC People’s Committee organized the groundbreaking ceremony of Package XL-1: construction of the interceptor under the Second HCMC environmental sanitation project. Attending the ceremony included Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Dinh La Thang, Mr. Ousmane Dione-World Bank Country Director for Vietnam.
According to Mr. Vuong Hai Long, Director of Investment Management Authority, the second HCMC environmental sanitation project has a total investment capital of US$ 524 million (VND 11, 000 billion), including US$ 450 million funded by World Bank.
The project includes two main items: a 8km interceptor transferring wastewater from Nhieu Loc-Thi Nge canal and District 2 to expected construction site of wastewater treatment plant, a 480, 000m3/day waste water treatment plant on an area of 38 hectares in Thanh My Loi Ward.
Built in district 2, the second HCMC Environmental Sanitation Project helps complete waste water collection and treatment system for the whole area of Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe and district 2, wastewater must meet Standard A prior to discharging to the environment.
Once completed, the project will bring benefits to local people; restoring and preserving eco-system in Saigon and Dong Nai River downstream; restoring and innovating environment, enhancing awareness of environmental protection, promoting tourism development, etc.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Ousmane Dione – World Bank Country Director for Vietnam – said the project is followed by the success of the first HCMC Environmental Sanitation Project funded by World Bank in 2012
