VND 9,500 billion anti-flooding project approved

HCMC People’s Committee has approved an investment project to manage risks of flooding in the city in 2016-2021with total capital of VND 9,500 billion loan from World Bank.


Of which, US$ 400 million loan comes from International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) under World Bank, HCMC People’s Committee contributes US$ 37 million from counterpart funds.

The project is invested by Steering Center of the Urban Flood Control program-HCMC at Go Vap, Binh Thanh, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan, Binh Chanh Districts, Districts 8 and 12.

The project aims to enhance management capacity, anti-flooding combined with improvement of sanitary environment of the city, preventing high tide, solving water drainage impacted by climate change.

The project’s target is to protect 14,900 hectares of land from flooding, help nearly 2 million people (till 2020) living in Saigon River valley access utilities of environmental sanitation; solving completely inundation and pollution, improving public sanitary conditions, especially improving water drainage system environmental sanitation for a sustainable development
