Vietnam National University-HCMC celebrate 20th anniversary

On January 27, Vietnam National University-HCM (VNU-HCM) celebrated 20th anniversary of construction-development-integration (1995-2015). Attending the ceremony include President Truong Tan Sang, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Science –Technology Nguyen Quan, Vice Permanent Secretary of HCMC’s Party Committee Vo Van Thuong and Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, President of VNU-HCM said that after 20 years of construction-development-integration, VNU-HCM has become the largest multi-disciplinary university system in Southern Vietnam. Till now, many curriculums of VNU-HCM are international accredited, VNA-HCM has many leading research centers in fields of biotechnology, microelectronics, information technology, archeology, sociology; many scientific and technology projects have been transferred to localities.

 

VNU-HCM is currently comprised of six member universities, 29 faculties, institutes and centers with 5,600 staff, of which 2,412 are lecturers, research staff with master’s degrees or higher. VNU-HCM has over 60,000 full-time undergraduate and graduate students. On a yearly basis, VNU-HCM supplies 10,000 bachelors, engineers, Masters, Dr. Speaking at the ceremony, President Truong Tan Sang highly appreciated ceaseless efforts of VNU-HCM as well its breakthroughs of basic construction, infrastructure investment, improvement of training quality, scientific research, technology transfer and development of scientific team with highly-skilled management.

 

President Truong Tan Sang directed VNU-HCM to take the lead on innovation, effective implementation of its targets and missions with specific solutions. VNU-HCM needs to continue to renew its curriculums, teaching and learning methods, examination and assessment of educational and training quality in the modern direction and in accordance with international standards. The President stressed VNU-HCM, in order to become a leading university institution of Vietnam, of the region and of the world, needs to strengthen and further improve scientific research, striving to become leading training research center of the country.

 

At the ceremony, President Truong Tan Sang granted a calligraphy with a word “Tri” to VNU-HCM. In return, Mr. Sang received a badge of honor from VNU-HCM.

On this special occasion, VNU-HCM was honored to receive traditional flag from Ministry of Training and Education, Ministry Of Sciences-Technology, HCMC People’s Committee and Binh Duong People’s Committee.
