On May 19, Investment & Trade Promotion Center of HCMC (ITPC) incorporated with Vietnam Embassy in Myanmar and Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MRCCI) organized a conference on trade, investment, tourism promotion 2015 at Mandalay Hill, Mandalay City (Myanmar).
The conference attracted 100 representatives of Vietnam and Myanmar enterprises. Addressing at the seminar, Vice Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hong thanked authority of Mandalay city for creating favorable conditions for HCMC to organize the seminar. Mrs. Hong hoped the seminar will be a linking bridge for strong trade exchange between Vietnam and Myanmar. Mr. U Aung Zan, Minister of Planning and Economy of Myanmar hoped to listen to Vietnamese enterprises, especially those from HCMC about difficulties in trade exchange activities between Vietnam and Myanmar.
Mr. Maung Maung, General Secretary of MRCCI gave a brief introduction of business opportunities in Mandalay, of which “hot” fields in Myanmar include infrastructure (port, road, railway, airport), telecommunication, energy, electricity, mine, agriculture, textile, fashion, health, water, real estate, etc.
Director of ITPC Pho Nam Phuong presented difficulties and proposals of HCMC’s enterprises to authorities of Myanmar and of Mandalay city.
At the conference, Mrs. New Ni Oo, Director of Manday region Investment and Corporate Governance and Mr. Maung Maung provide guidance and explanation on difficulties and barriers for Vietnamese enterprises. The conference was very successful at creating opportunities for enterprises of both sides to exchange and introduce goods in fields of health, agriculture, construction, etc.
There are now 35 Vietnamese companies establishing representative offices in Myanmar, ranked 8th out of countries and territories investing in Myanmar and accounted for 1,3% of total FDI of Myanmar. Vietnam has 8 investment projects in Myanmar with total value of US$ 688, 6 million; in particular, export volume of HCMC to Myanmar reaches US$ 73, 8 million in2013 and US$ 77, 34 million in 2014.
