On April 15, Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Tat Thanh Cang received Mr. Lee Ark Boon, Vice Minister of Trade and Industry of Singapore on a visit to seek investment and co-operation opportunities in HCMC.
Mr. Cang said that Vietnam-Singapore relationship has been well developed in the last 20 years and presented in many fields. This good relationship has been established and fostered since former Prime Minister of Vietnam Vo Van Kiet and former Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew. The clear proof for good relationship between Vietnam and Singapore is the establishment of a series of industrial parks invested by Singapore from North to South.
Mr. Cang expressed his hope that in the coming time, Singapore continues support HCMC in fields of education, health, saying that Singapore can share and strengthen co-operation with Vietnam in other fields such as logistics, sea port infrastructure, urban planning consultancy. He added HCMC hopes to push up co-operation with Singapore to develop industries, especially supporting industry. In term of infrastructure, Mr. Cang noted that HCMC is encouraging and calling for investment in transport and technical infrastructure. HCMC has been investing in constructing 8 Metro lines, 2 completed and is calling for investment in the rest of 6 Metro lines. Mr. Cang said that he hoped Singapore can seek co-operation opportunities in this field.
Mr. Lee Ark Boon expressed his impression at the development of HCMC and its planned projects. In 2013, Singapore was ranked 3rd in Vietnam and 1st in HCMC in the list of countries and territories investing in Vietnam, he believed that both countries can promote more co-operation opportunities in the future.
Mr. Lee Ark Boon affirmed Singapore can strengthen investment in HCMC in fields of urban planning, health, logistics, education, especially environmental planning. He believed that in the coming time when ASEAN Economic Community is launched, Singapore and Vietnam relations will be more developed.
