According to evaluation of experts, departments and agencies, there are many reasons for air polluted environment in HCMC such as impact of production factories, industrial parks, export processing zones, construction projects, career villages, notice, however, the main cause comes from vehicle emissions, especially from motorcycles (6,5 million motorcycles registered in HCMC, excluding motorcycles from other provinces).

At the meeting, Mr. Le Hoang Quan directed HCMC Department of Natural Resource and Environment to urgently carry out environmental projects, to construct HCMC Meteorological Center. Mr. Quan requested Department of Transport to study the road of gradually reducing motorcycle registration till 2020 when Metro lines and rapid bus transit lines put into operation. He also requested related departments to coordinates with Southern Regional Hydro Meteorological Station to provide regular reports on air polluted environment in HCMC to leaders of departments and agencies. In addition, leaders of departments and agencies pay attention to the people’s health, considering it as a special issue.
