In the afternoon of January 25, HCMC People’s Committee and US Consulate General co-organized a talk about smarty city development. Attending the talk included Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong, US Consul General Mary Etta Tarnowka, representatives of departments and agencies, representatives of 17 US companies.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong said the city has, in Nov 2017, announced the project of “building HCMC a smart city in the period of 2017-2020 and a vision to 2025”. Many US companies have cooperated with HCMC to develop smart city. In April 2018, the city will organize a conference on seeking investment opportunities in many fields and selecting investors for smart city project through this conference.
Mr. Phong thanked US Government and companies for their support in the past time, expressing his hope to further recieve technical support form US Government as well as proposals of modern technology application. He expressed his commitment that the city would create every favorable condition for foreign investors, including those from USA, to invest in the city.
For her part, Ms. Mary Etta Tarnowka said the implementation of the project of “building HCMC a smart city in 2017-2020 and a vision to 2025” presents the city’s ambition to carry out solutions to deal with urban development challenges.
At the talk, US companies have introduced their strengths, experience in building smart city. Both sides have discussed meassures to promote cooperation programs between US companies and those of HCMC in smart city development.
After the talk, representatives of Departments of Information & Communications and US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) have signed a sponsor deal of US$ 880,333 to build an Intergrated Emergency Communication System project in 2016-2020 and beyond.
