At the meeting, Mr. Kirk Wagar said there are now about 26,000 US companies doing business in Singapore, over 80% of them wish to expand their investment in other countries in ASEAN region and most of them are showing their interest in Vietnam. This is a clear proof that Vietnam is a very potential market.

Mr. Kirk Wagar highly appreciates the dynamic development, role and important position of HCMC, he expressed his hope to learn more about investment environment in HCMC in this visit. After the visit, he will provide information of investment demands of HCMC to US companies in Singapore, calling for US investment in HCMC in particular and in Vietnam in general.

In his part, Mr. Tat Thanh Cang highly appreciated US investment in HCMC in the past time, saying that many big US firms have been choosing HCMC as ideal destination and doing business very successfully.

Mr. Cang also announced some fields that HCMC is calling for foreign investment including infrastructure (seaport, aviation, railway, subway, road transportation and inland public transport), health, education-training, science-technology, high class services such as tourism, finance, banking, manufacturing such as hi-tech, supporting industry, food and foodstuff processing, etc. For the two advantageous sectors of HCMC including apparel and shoe leather, HCMC is calling for foreign investment to change from processing to fashion design as well as producing materials for the textile industry.

Mr. Cang hoped that US firms could boot investment in the above sectors and committed to create favorable conditions for US companies to seek business opportunities in HCMC.
