In his opening speech, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong briefly highlighted the war against foreign invaders and national independence, especially the Great August Revolution leading to the founding of Democratic Republic of Vietnam (today Socialist Republic of Vietnam). The August Revolution has opened a new era of Vietnamese people – an era of independence, self-reliance, freedom and social progress.
 

Mr. Phong affirmed: the great spirit and will of the August Revolution 1945 has helped Vietnamese people overcome all challenges and won a glorious victory in a struggle of national liberation and reunification as well as succeeded in the innovation reform and national development. Achievements of innovation reform (known as Doi Moi) have not only proven the heroic history of Vietnamese people – 1000 years of culture and civilization – a dynamic country with huge development potential, successfully global integration.

Vietnam has so far established diplomatic relations with 187 countries, signing economic-trade-investment cooperation relations with 224 countries and territories, being a dynamic member of 70 regional and international organizations. Till end of Q.2 of 2018, HCMC’s economy continue growing with a contribution of 7,86% to the State’s budget with VND 183, 000 billion. The city has attracted project worth 4.18 billion USD, up 1,44 times as of the same period, bringing total FDI capital to US$ 45 billion.

Chairman Phong added that to successfully carry out the economic development objectives apart from potential and internal resources, HCMC needs close cooperation and enthusiastic support from international friends and community. The city will continue to improve its business and investment environment, timely remove difficulties and create every favorable condition for business community, maintain periodical dialogues with foreign business community to listen and remove any difficulty for investors.

Consul General of Russia Federation in HCMC Alexei Popov said the Sep 2 1945 marks a historical milestone of Vietnamese people, a founding day of the first State of farmers and workers in Southeast Asia. He also highly appreciated the role of HCMC as an important gateway for economic, trade, investment, technology, culture exchanges in Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Popov also thanked the city’s leaders for creating favorable conditions for foreign consulate generals in HCMC to excellently complete their tasks and contribute to the city’s development. He expressed his belief that the city will continue to reinforce friendship and comprehensive cooperation relations between Vietnam with other countries, including HCMC with foreign countries.
