The Netherlands to support HCMC with climate change adaptation

On May 11, Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem worked with Dutch Consul General Carel Richter, experts and businesses on water management.

 

 

Mr. Liem highly appreciated the Netherlands’ support for the city, saying Dutch support has helped the city to adapt to climate change, water mangement, water treatment and anti-flooding. These are important and ugent matters which have impacts on the city’s sustainable development in the future.

 

Anti-flooding and water management have become big challenges of HCMC. Mr. Liem suggested that the Netherlands will continue to support the city in these fields.

 

At the meeting, experts said the Netherlands is also facing challenges of water management because the country lies below sea level. The Netherland is well-known for innovative solutions when it comes to water management. Dutch technology institutes and universities are often doing research and working out solutions on sustainable water management.

 

For his part, Mr. Carel Richter emphasized that it is a policy of Dutch Government to work out water management solutions as natural as possible, considering water as an asset not a pressure. Therefore, the Netherlands always pursues water management solutions in a direction to promote socio-economic development and to bring the economic efficiency. The Netherlands commits to strengthen public-private partnership with HCMC in field of anti-flooding toward sustainable development.

 

At the reception, Dutch businesses have introduced many public-private partnership projects in field anti-flooding with modern technology.
