Tet flower and book Streets kicks off in HCMC

On February 16, Tet 2015 flower and book streets was held in Ham Nghi Street, District 1, HCMC

Attending the ceremony include President Truong Tan Sang, Vice Chairwoman of National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Le Thanh Hai and representatives of HCMC People’s Committee, overseas Vietnamese, local and foreign visitors.

 

Over the last 10 years, Nguyen Hue Flower Street is a special cultural event of HCMC. In 2015, Nguyen Hue Street is renovated as pedestrian square so the flower street is temporarily moved to Ham Nghi Street.


With title: “Vietnam: Magnanimity and Identity”, the flower street is a combination of quintessence and creative figures to reflect labor, patriotic tradition, aspiration for peace, development and prosperity of HCMC in particular and of the whole country in general. The flower street also conveys a message of resilient and indomitable Vietnamese people overcoming hardships, promoting national cultural identity and integrating into world community.

 

At the same day, Tet book street festival is held in Ham Nghi Street. The book street introduced over 1,500 book titles in 4 categories including historical mark-Saigon-HCMC, Pride – Uncle Ho named Street, Sacred Islands, integrated city.

 

 


The book street also features sections of e-books, children’s books, rare books and books for the visually impaired.


In this year, the book street features sections of good and rare books displayed by national language of authors, printing houses, publishing houses who had a strong attachment to Saigon in the period of end of 19 th century to 1945.
