Swiss businesses wish to expand investment in HCMC

In the afternoon of May 5, Permanent Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem recieved a Swiss business delegation lead by Swiss Ambassador Vietnam Peleric Hogberg in a working visit to seek investment opportunities in fields of urban transport and railway.




Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Liem highly appreiated the role of Ambassador Pelerie Hogberg as a linking bridge to promote Vietnam-Switzerland Friendship & Cooperation relations. Mr. Liem praised great contributions of Swiss businesses to the city’s development. In 2017, two way trade between HCMC and Switzerland reached US$ 150 million. Switzerland now has 22 investment projects in HCMC worth US$ 254 million.


In his brief introduction of the city’s socio-economic development, Mr. Liem said the city strives to soon become a big economic-financial-commercial-scientific-technological center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia region. In order to achieve this, the city is now focusing on implementing key tasks like; Resolution 54 of the National Asssembly on piloting special measures and policies for HCMC development; project of buiding HCMC into a smart city in 2017-2020 and vision to 2025.


“HCMC welcomes, accompanies and creates the most favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Swiss ones to study and seek investment opportunities here”, said Mr. Liem.


For his part, Mr. Peleric Horbert thanked HCMC’s leaders for warm welcome and expresed his impression at rapid economic growth of the city. He said cooperation potential between Vietnam and Switzerland is still big, saying part from infrastructure, both sides can expand cooperation to other potential areas that HCMC is in need.


 “Switzerland is willing to cooperate and share our experience, to work out practical solutions to contribute to the common development of HCMC”, said, Mr. Peleric Hogberg.
