On October 17, Head of HCMC government’s office Vo Van Hoan received Mr. Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce, Deputy Minister of Trade, Chairman of Foreign Trade, Investment and Export (Spain) on a visit to HCMC.
At the reception, Mr. Vo Van Hoan expressed his delight at receiving Mr. Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce and the delegation to seek investment opportunities in HCMC.
In his brief introduction of socio-economic development of HCMC, Mr. Hoan said beside high economic growth speed and achieved results; the city is now facing with many pressing problems and difficulties including transport infrastructure, pollution, flooding, etc. Therefore, the city is strengthening development of transport infrastructure projects such as construction of 6 metro lines, development airway and waterway systems.
He stressed that the city highly values the financial support from Spanish Government for the Metro No 5 project. Apart from economic cooperation, this support presents the close and deepened diplomatic relations between both countries.
According to Mr. Hoan, development of Metro line system is just a beginning, the city is in hope that Spain will participate into other projects like anti-flooding, hi-tech waste treatment. He affirmed that the city is now welcoming and creating favorable conditions for Spanish companies to study, seek investment opportunities in the city.
For his part, Mr. Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce said he and the delegation have just conducted a site tour at Metro No 1 of the city and seen a good progress of the project. Regarding to Metro line No 5, Mr. Garcia-Legaz Ponce stressed that Spanish Government has made its commitment to continue supporting this project. At the moment, European Investment Bank, Asia Development Bank has committed to finance this project. In addition, Spanish Government has allocated financial support for Metro No 5 line in HCMC.
Regarding to anti-flooding and waste treatment, Mr. Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce said Spain has years of experiences in these fields and willing to share, discuss and cooperate with HCMC.
