Set up solid waste treatment planning for HCMC till 2025

On March 23, Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Tin organized a meeting with HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment and relevant departments and sectors on setting up solid waste treatment planning for HCMC till 2025 and vision to 2050.

According to deputy director of HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Van Phuoc, HCMC  consumed a huge amount of natural resources and energy, the city also emitted a big amount of wastes (liquid, gas, solid and mud) including non-hazardous and hazardous wastes, recyclable and non-recyclable wastes. 

Currently, amount of garbage generated in HCMC is about 7.200 – 7.500 tons/day. The city has 10 small-scaled recycling plants. Planning on solid waste treatment in HCMC till 2025 and vision to 2050 is very crucial to ensure a stable and sustainable development, reducing emissions and recycling these solid wastes.


Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin suggested that HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment needs to further consult with management units and scientists to review the content of research to make it suitable with practical conditions. He expressed that the solid waste treatment planning for HCMC till 2025 and vision to 2050 must base on the Space Map and Master Plan for socio-economic development of HCMC till 2030.


Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin also suggested HCMC Department of Planning and Architecture to push up research and adjust the socio-economic development master plan of HCMC in accordance with practical situation as a basis for HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment soon set up a suitable planning.
