Seminar on urban waste treatment solutions – technology and feasibility - Seminar on urban waste treatment solutions – technology and feasibility - Website Ho Chi Minh City
On May 14, HCMC Department of Science and Technology organized a seminar on urban waste treatment solutions – technology and feasibility, Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Manh Ha attended the seminar.
At the seminar, speakers assessed practical situation and proposed feasible solutions and technology to take use of energy sources from waste as well as to effectively treat wastes in HCMC.
Most of waste including hazardous waste is processed by burying, this causes water and soil pollution, disagreeable odor, produces emissions of several greenhouse gases. To solve this problem, HCMC has worked out many solutions, listening to ideas from experts to choose the right investment solution and technology.
A representative from urban environment company said that there are some domestic and foreign investors proposing projects of recovering energy including waste incineration plant (generating power) at key Northern and Southern economic zones, power plant run by waste gas in Hanoi, Hai Phong, HCMC. As estimates, in Vietnam, if being equipped with gas generating system at dumping grounds or combustion of methane, it will reduce gas emission of 0,24ton of CO2/ton of garbage) or 7,8million tons of CO2/year.
As estimated by experts, if being applied with good recycled technology, models of collecting gases will reduce greenhouse emission gases of approximately 0,68 ton of CO2/ ton of garbage. And if reusing these gases as alternative energy sources of fossil energy, this figure will be a significant contribution to the energy sector.
At the seminar, delegates introduced effective waste treatment technologies from Japan, Korea, Finland, etc for HCMC.
