Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan receives Myanmar Parliament Speaker

On May 11, Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan received Burmese Parliament Speaker Man Uyn Khai Than on a visit to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPO) conference on climate change in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan welcomed Mr. Man Uyn Khai Than and Burmese delegation to HCMC, saying Vietnam and Myanmar, including HCMC and localities of Myanmar have established long lasted cooperation and traditional relations.
 
In his brief of the city’s socio-economic situation, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed HCMC, with role of economic locomotive of the country, contributes 23% to GDP of Vietnam and 1/3 to the State’s budget. The city is especially attaching importance to establishment of Myanmar-HCMC, especially HCMC and Yangon.

Since 2012, HCMC has frequently organized trade exchange activities in Myanmar namely HCMC Expo to support both sides’ businesses to access market. In 2016, bilateral export value between HCMC and Myanmar reached US$ 124 million (up 18% to 2015); that of Q.1 2017 reached US$ 85 million (3 times as high as of the same period).
 
Mr. Nhan affirmed HCMC will continue boosting cooperation activities with Myanmar, especially in fields of trade, investment, to strengthen both sides’ friendship relation and enhance value of trade exchange.
 
Mr. Man Uyn Khai Than thanked HCMC’s leaders for their sincere welcome. He said Vietnam and Myanmar are both ASEAN’s members with many similarities of climate, culture, etc. This is a precious experience for Myanmar to enhance human resource quality and to create firm foundation for socio-economic development.
