At the meeting, voters reflected the pollution of Dong Thanh garbage dump, saying that no advancement is made in despite of requests sent to local authority or high level, Cau Du canal has been seriously polluted, they questioned many toxic waste has been dumped here that caused environmental pollution, this is also a reason for many unexplained cancers.

After being questioned, Mr. Thang requested Mr. Le Tuan Tai, Chairman of Hoc Mon District People’s Committee, to answer every question of local people and to explain the reason why the problem cannot be solved despite of numerous requests made by local people.

He criticized Mr. Tai for not closely following the situation and to solve it. Mr. Thang admitted his mistake and explained that this should be known by leaders of the city, saying that the dump should be stopped if it is not environmentally ensured. He requested responsibility must be made clear by HCMC Urban Environment Company.

He also requested Department of Natural Resource and Environment of District 12 to conduct inspection and make report on Dong Thanh Garbage Dump and Cau Dua canal related issues accompanied by solutions before May 16. In addition, he assigned HCMC Department of Health the job of providing free of charge health check for local people living around Dong Thanh Garbage Dump.

After the meeting, Mr. Thang conducted an inspection visit to Dong Thanh garbage dump.
