On March 23, Vice Chairman of HCM People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Tin chaired a regular meeting on reviewing traffic safety acuities in the first quarter of 2015.
According to report of HCMC Traffic Safety Committee, there are 939 traffic accidents in the first quarter of 2015, a reduction of 37 cases compared to the same period of 2014, killing 185 people and injuring 844. The main reasons of traffic accidents include traveling in the wrong lane, speeding, illegal overtaking, etc. In the first quarter of 2015, there is no traffic congestion but 39 congested spots of traffic jams. Encroachment of roadway and sidewalks by sellers is still not reduced; illegal vehicles are not properly handled.
It is a goal of HCMC Traffic Safety Committee to reduce traffic accidents down to 5% in 2015; reducing traffic jam spots that last over 30 minutes, working out 8 key missions in the second quarter such as strengtheing inspection and propaganda; installation of traffic safety warning signs, etc.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin requested authorities at all levels, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee-HCMC and localities must strengthen propaganda activities to raise awareness of obeying traffic law, reducing 3 criteria of traffic accidents (number of accidents, number of deaths and number of the injured)
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tin added that HCMC’s traffic situation becomes worse, he requested HCMC Department of Transport to review all traffic warning signs and black spots of traffic accidents in HCMC. For radial and belt roads, he requested HCMC Department of Transport to coordinate with localities to research how to build tunnel, flyovers and to propose meassures to HCMC People’s Committee in the coming time.
He assigned HCMC People’s Committee the jobs of coordinating with functional organs to work out solutions for reorganizing illegal bus stations in the second quarter of 2015; strengthening inspection and stoping overloaded vehicles in the city.
