According to reports of HCMC People’s Committee, 6/6 communes meeting 10/19 criteria for new style rural areas include: Tan Thong Hoi, Thai My (Cu Chi District), Ly Nhon (Can Gio District), Xuan Thoi Thuong (Hoc Mon District), Tan Nhut (Binh Chanh District), Nhon Duc (Nha Be District). For the rest of 50 communes, HCMC will continue to carry out as plan.

The pilot project of building new style rural area at 6 communes has earned a consensus and support of people. Development of infrastructures has partly met production living demands, contributing to investment attraction and production development, improving incomes for households (average income: VND 31,5 million/person/year). After implementation of the project, there appear many effective production models that are suitable for urban industries and can be replicated (orchid, ornamental plants and fish, etc). The project accelerates renovation and development of rural careers, improving income and material and spiritual livings of local people, reducing disparities with urban areas. Local people have more time to participate into cultural activities, they live in a green and clean environment. At the pilot communes, some criteria such as income, production connectivity, labor transfer, planning, transport infrastructure, etc, are basically met. Ability and standards of officials at all levels, especially at commune and ward levels are much improved. 

In 2015, HCMC will continue to accelerate implementation of the program of building new style rural area, focusing on solutions to basically complete the national target program on construction of new style rural area at all communes in HCMC, improving quality of criteria of construction of new style rural area in the following phases.
