On June 23, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc worked with leaders of HCMC on socio-economic development in the first 6 months of 2017 and new key tasks in the last 6 months, listening to new proposals of the city. Attending the meeting included representatives of central ministries and departments, leaders of HCMC.
On his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc said HCMC has an importantly strategic location, any barrier the city faced will have bad impacts on the common development of the whole country. Therefore, it is very important to review development targets of the city in 2017. Mr. Phuc requested related ministries and departments to frankly contribute their opinions to the most concerned issues of the city to make it an economic-scientific-educational-cultural center of the whole country.
He suggested HCMC to work out solutions for smart city development. This requires the city to make comprehensive changes in methods of urban management by using new technology with people and enterprise centered approach, making the city a worth living city, attracting and retaining talents. The city need to think out of box to carry out pilot mechanisms, to drastically address shortcomings and bottlenecks, promoting development of private economy, financial resources, etc.
Prime Minister also suggested HCMC to actively study and propose legal solutions, including construction of laws, to boost the city’s development.
Mr. Phuc stressed: HCMC needs to renew thinking, to pursue the motto of dare to think-dare to do. The city should look at successful stories in the region and the world to follow, leaving the philosophy of “safety first” behind to create new breakthroughs and ideas. The government will accompany the city to remove difficulties and to promote development of the city.
