Prime Minister to work with HCMC on traffic congestion

On January 23, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired an online meeting with HCMC on solutions for reducing traffic congestion.

In a report, Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Van Khoa said the city has now 37 spots prone to traffic congestion in areas such as Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Cat Lai port, routes connecting inner city and suburbs, 7 of them have been positively changed, other 30 are at high risk of traffic congestion.

On behalf of HCMC’s leaders, Mr. Le Van Khoa suggested that Prime Minister approves some special mechanisms for some urgent projects to reduce traffic congestion in Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Cat Lai port and other gateways of the city.

In his conclusion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said traffic congestion causes significant wastes of time and fuel and bad impact on living and investment environment. Mr. Phuc agrees to create favorable mechanism for the city to invest, build traffic infrastructure to resolve traffic congestion in the short coming time.
 
In the long term, Mr. Phuc requested HCMC, Ministry of Transport and related departments and agencies to complete mechanism, polices on urban management, working out better urban planning measures, reducing high-rise buildings in centered areas which are lacking traffic systems; working out roadmap of restricting personal vehicle, strengthening public transport means, reorganizing transport space of the city, reorganizing traffic controlling system, etc.
