Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Tan District has no more poor people whose yearly income is lower than VND16 million (US$ 748.4) per head, said the steering board of poverty elimination and increase average households in the city on January 23.

This is the fifth district in HCMC achieving the target of poverty elimination as per the set schedule after districts 5, 6, 11 and Tan Binh. Before Binh Tan District had over 4,300 poor households accounting for 2.6 percent of households in the district or nearly 20,000 people with yearly income of VND16 million.
The district authorities has implemented synchronous measures to reduce the number of poor households. For instance, the authority provides capital for them to do business to improve their economic condition.

Last year, 455 poor households were loaned totaling over VND7.3 billion (US$ 341,480) to do their business, farming, planting and pursue vocational training. Moreover, 450 students were loaned VND5.5 billion (US$ 257,279) to pay tuition fee and their learning expenditure.

Until now, 4,300 households escaped poverty with year income of over VND16 million per person.
