Nidec to establish R&D Center in HCMC

On March 14, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received Mr. Takebe Tsutoma, Special Advisor of Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentary Alliance and Mr. Shigenobu Nagamori, Chairman of Nidec (Japan).

At the reception, Mr. Takebe Tsutoma said Vietnam-Japan Festival 2016 hosted in HCMC was very successful and known by a majority of Japanese people. Many localities of Japan expressed their wishes to join the festival in 2017. He suggested HCMC to support and closely coordinate with Japan to bring success to Vietnam-Japan Festival 2017.

Chairman of Nidec Shigenobu Nagamori said Nidec has investment projects in 46 countries and territories around the world. The Group has invested in Vietnam with a total investment capital of US$ 1 billion, employing 20, 000 people. He said Nidec is expecting to invest more and transfer technology to Vietnam, saying that he hopes to receive more support and better preferential policies from Vietnam Government as well as from the city’s authority.

For his part, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong welcomed Nidec’s plan on establishing a R&D Center in Saigon Hi-tech Park, saying Nidec’s decision to invest and transfer technology to HCMC is an important impetus to further encourage other technology firms to the same in HCMC. Mr. Phong stressed the city will continue improving its investment environment and to create the most favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Japanese ones to invest in the city.
