On November 12, Deputy Chairman of HCMC’s People Committee Le Thanh Liem received Mr. Funayama Norio – Managing Director of Council of local authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) from Singapore.
At the meeting, Mr. Le Thanh Liem highly valued the Japan-Vietnam relation, saying that this relation has been strongly developed in many fields.
According to Mr. Liem, HCMC, with a role as an economic driving force, has made great contributions to the economic development of Vietnam through economic co-operation deals with foreign investors, especially those from Japan. Japan has now 818 investment projects from 800 investors in HCMC with total capital of US$ 2, 7 billion, ranked 6th out of countries and territories investing in HCMC.
In term of development, Mr. Liem said HCMC has focused on renovating economic growth model, of which the city is giving priority to 4 key industries: electronics-information technology, mechanical engineering, food processing, chemical-plastic-rubber. Besides, the city has focused on training, developing high quality human resource and hi-tech agriculture. Mr. Liem affirmed HCMC always welcomes, accompanies and creates favorable conditions for foreign investors, especially Japanese ones, to seek and to exchange investment co-operation in HCMC.
In his part, Mr. Funayama Norio expressed his delight at co-operation results between localities of Japan and HCMC, stressing that Japanese investors consider Vietnam in general and HCMC in particular as an ideal destination with many development potentials.
Mr. Funayama Norio said with expertise and experience, Japan can support HCMC in waste management, clean water with modern technologies. He expressed his hope to strengthen co-operation with HCMC in other fields to further deepen the Vietnam-Japan relation.
