On May 26, HCMC People’s Committee coordinated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to organize the drilling ceremony TBM (underground drilling robot) starting construction of underground section from Ba Son station to Opera House under construction project of Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien Urban Railway No 1 (Metro Line No 1).
Attending the ceremony and pressing the drilling button included Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong, Japanese Consul General in HCMC Junichi Kawanue together with leaders of related departments and agencies and representatives of Shimizu-Maeda Joint Venture.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong emphasized the important significance of the Metro Line No 1 as one of the city’s key infrastructure projects, addressing traffic congestion and creating a driving force for urban transport infrastructure development toward the East-Northeast. The project will make big contributions to socio-economic development, building the city into a modern-civilized-sentimental city with better living quality.
It is known that the Metro Line No 1 Ben Thanh Suoi Tien has a length of 19.7km with a 2.6km underground section, total investment capital of the project is US$ 2.5 billion (VND 47, 000 billion).
