Stressed by Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong in a reception with Mrs. Mary Etta Tarnowka, new US Consul General on September 20.

In his brief introduction of the city’s development orientation, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong said it is a determination of HCMC to make it a big economic-financial-commercial-scientific-technology center in Southeast Asia region. To achieve this, the city has been strengthening multi-faceted development including calling for foreign investment.

According to Mr. Phong, US investors play an important role to the development of HCMC, saying that cooperation potential between US and HCMC is huge, especially in field of constructing HCMC a smart city.

In addition, Mr. Phong mentioned about the most concerned issues of the city and called for US investors to get involved in important projects including urban infrastructure, environment, energy saving.

For her part, Mrs. Mary Etta Tarnowka expressed her delight at being appointed as new US Consul General in HCMC. She said that HCMC is a dynamic city with many development potential. Besides, Mrs. Mary Etta Tarnowka highly valued efforts of HCMC’s authority to promote comprehensive reform, including conducting dialogue and exchanges between leaders of HCMC with foreign business groups in Vietnam to remove difficulty for foreign investors.

According to Mary Etta Tarnowka, after ratification of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), there will be more deep and wide cooperation opportunities for both countries, especially in fields of economy and education.
