The visiting Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan Kisaburo Ishii discussed a plan to build a commercial center in the underground portion of HCM City's Metro Line No 1 near Ben Thanh Market during a meeting with the municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Huu Tin on June 10.
A Japanese firm has submitted its design for the Ben Thanh Commercial Centre to the municipal committee late last month, said the Japanese official. This would be an important project that support the development of HCM City's downtown, he said.
Ishii said his government could consider providing official development assistance (ODA) loans for it beginning from 2016.
He also expressed his wish for support from the municipal and central governments so that work would soon start on the project.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Huu Tin said the city would be determine to implement the project with the most suitable mode for mutual benefits.
The Ben Thanh Central Station will have four lines. Line 1 and line 2 have won sponsors while the city is calling for investorsin line 3 and Line 4.
