On December 30, HCMC People’s Committee held a conference on implementation of the Resolution of the Government and of HCMC People’s Council on socio-economic development, budget revenue and expenditure in 2016. Attending the conference including Permanent Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party’s Committee Vo Van Thuong, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong, Deputy Chairmen Le Van Khoa, Nguyen Thi Thu and leaders of departments, agencies, districts.
According to report of HCMC People’s Committee, HCMC achieved a fairly high economic growth rate in 2015 with GDP of VND 957.358 billion, up 9.85% compared to the same period of last year, higher than that of 3 recently successive years (9.2% in 2012, 9.3% in 2013, 9.6% in 2014), 1.5 times higher than that of the whole country (6.68%) GDP per capital was US$ 5,538.
HCMC has exceeded its target of State’s budget revenue and expenditure, there was a positive change in FDI attraction with total 566 licensed projects worth about US$ 4.6 billion (newly registered and adjusted), up 43% compared to the same period. Support programs of the city have created favorable conditions for enterprises to stabilize and promote production-business activities.
The city has laid out its general targets in 2016 such as speeding up economic growth to ensure a higher growth target than 2015, enhancing growth quality and economic competitiveness of HCMC, promoting production – business development, removing difficulties for enterprises especially small and medium-sized ones, implementing breakthrough programs of the Resolution of the 10th Party Congress of HCMC, developing infrastructure systems associated with urban renovation, proving clean water, reducing traffic congestion, anti-flooding, environmental protection and adapting to climate change. Some other issues will be urgently implemented including developing cultural activities, education reform, social security and welfare, sustainable poverty reduction, improving quality of lives, strengthening administrative reform, consolidating State’s management apparatus, tightening disciplines, training a team of officials qualified for economic development requirements in the new era, strengthening contacts and direct dialogue with local people, expanding and enhancing efficiency of external affairs and of international integration, ensuring national security, social order and safety.
Addressing at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong requested Departments-Agencies-Districts to set up action programs and implementation plans of the Resolution of the Party Congress, urgently completing implementation plan of 7 breakthrough programs and economic restructuring, enhancing quality of growth and competitiveness, promoting propaganda activities of support solutions for production after establishment of ASEAN Community, TPP and other bilateral and multilateral FTAs, mobilizing resources to develop synchronously technical and social infrastructure systems, etc.
