Ho Chi Minh City’s youth look towards sea, islands

More than 5,000 youths, students and people took part in a festival themed “Millions of hearts look towards islands” at Ho Chi Minh City Youth’s Cultural House on June 14.

 

The festival organized by the Vietnam Youth Federation in Ho Chi Minh City aims to raise the patriotism and the public awareness of the protection of the country’s sovereignty over sea and islands.
Deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, leaders of the Vietnam Marine Police and the Vietnam Fisheries Surveillance Force participated in the event.
The festival included a series of activities, such as SMS campaign by sending messages to raise fund for soldiers and fishermen on Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spartly) archipelagos, photo exhibition titled To Quoc nhin tu bien (Fatherland seen from sea), declaration of the Central Committee of Vietnam Youth Federation, singing the national anthem  and making largest national flag by thousands of people, “Million hearts, million signatures” program, screening documentaries on the sea and islands, opening forum  on the newest update of situation in the East Sea.
The event’s organizer awarded 500 scholarships to children of naval soldiers, coast guards and fishermen; and handed over ICOM radio devices to young fishermen.
