In first days of 2017, departments and agencies in HCMC have urgently implemented their tasks; leaders of the city have worked with each unit to provide guidance on key tasks. The city’s socio-economic situation in the first 2 months of 2017 remains stable, almost urgent and long-term projects are under construction, commented by Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong at the meeting on socio-economic-cultural-national defense – budget spending and revenue situations in February and the first 02 months of 2017.
According to a report of HCMC Department of Planning and Investment, total retail sales and service turnover in the first 02 months of HCMC is estimated at VND 154, 262.9 billion, up 12, 2%. Total import-export value in February is estimated at US$ 2, 2 billion, up 24, 3% compared the same period of 2016. To domestic investment, there are a total of 4, 400 newly – established enterprises with total registered capital of VND 57, 199 billion, 5, 735 enterprises registered for changing their contents of business, total adjusted capital increased by VND 25, 437 billion, total registered and adjusted capital reached VND 82, 636 billion, up 40, 7% compared to the same period. Regarding to foreign investment, 96 new projects are granted with certificates of investment registration worth US$ 119.1 million, 24 projects registered for increasing capital worth US$ 59, 5 million. In term of tourism-service, the city received 524, 687 international visitors in the first 02 months of 2017, up 15% compared to the same period; tourism turnover (travel, hotel, restaurant) is estimated at VND 8, 950 billion, up 20% compared to the same period of 2016.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong requested departments, agencies and localities to continue focusing on implementation of socio-economic development tasks, budget spending and revenue, social security, etc. He requested HCMC Department of Architecture and Planning, on 2nd quarter of 2017 at the latest, to submit its plan on organizing international contest on construction of Can Gio District into an urban-entertainment resort of regional stature.
Mr. Phong highly appreciated the way District 1 is implementing to restore order for sidewalks, saying that the plan received strong support from local citizens via text message. He added the plan is also a wish of the city’s people and policy of the city’s leaders. The city will provide close and drastic guidance to create specific changes in the coming time.
