HCMC University of Medicine & Pharmacy strives to be a leading university in Vietnam

On October 27, The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of HCMC celebrated the 40th anniversary of establishment.


The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of HCMC was established in October 27 1976 on the foundation of merging Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Dentistry. Over the last 40 years, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of HCMC has become one of the key universities on training high quality health care human resource Southern provinces and the whole country.

Today, the university has 24 specialized faculties of BA degree, 30 faculties of PhD, 11 of university degree, 1 of college degree and 1 of vocational degree. In addition, the university has trained doctors in 1st and 2nd degree of specialty and resident doctors with a total number of lecturers and staff of more than 1,700.

The number of regular students is about 10,000, 2,500 students following 2nd degree and 3,500 post-graduate students. HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital is operating under the model of combining University-Institute with a capacity of 1000 beds, 2,800 doctors and staff. HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy has shaped its vision to become a leading university in health care in Vietnam and keep pace with other universities in the region.

On this occasion, Prof Le Quan Liem, former headmaster of HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy was honored with 2nd class Labor Medal, PhD Ngo Dong Khanh - associate headmaster of the university - was honored with the 3rd class labor medal by the President Tran Dai Quang, 16 groups and 32 individuals was awarded Certificates of Merit from Ministry of Health, 3 individuals received “Emulation Soldier” title from Ministry of Health, 11 groups and 22 individuals received Certificates of Merit from HCMC People’s Committee.
