On April 3, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong chaired a meeting with tourism enterprises 2017.

To make the “non-smoke industry” more profitable, Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen said the city needs to redesign its tour routes. It has also hired foreign consulting companies to build the city’s tourism development plan. HCMC has directed HCMC Department of Tourism to renew tourism routes, to introduce the city’s tourism potential in overseas working visits. On human resource, the city has assigned Department of Labor-War Invalids-Social Affairs to coordinate with tourism schools to build flexible and practical curriculums, providing demand stimulus packages for these schools to improve their facilities, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong stressed that amongst 9 service sectors, tourism plays an essential role and a key economic sector of the city with high added value using less labor, saying tourism is a solid fulcrum for economic development. However, according to Mr. Phong, the city’s tourism development is still modest. To make it a key economic sector, he requested Department of Tourism to coordinate with related departments to urgently build the city’s tourism development strategy by 2030 and summit to HCMC People’s Committee before September 2017 for consideration. Mr. Phong affirmed the city will continue giving support to travel companies, contributing to turn the city’s tourism into a key economic sector.
