On April 21, Permanent Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem attended the summing up conference on afforestation & 5-year green tree planting plan (2011-2015), forest firefighting and prevention, disaster prevention and rescue in 2016 and deploying plans in 2017.
As a report, in 2011-2015, forest protection and development of green tree space have achieved positive results contributing to the increase of green coverage in the city, climate change adaptation, and improvement of eco-environment and living conditions for local people.
Specifically, in 2011-2015, related units, households and individuals have planted a total of 5, 164, 092 trees in an equivalent area of 1, 216.9 hectares, exceeding the planned target of 1 million trees/year. In 2016-2020, the city strives to plant at least 1 million green trees/year contributing to the development of forest and green space in the city.
Regarding forest protection and firefighting, in 2016, the city’s departments and agencies have done a good job in forest protection and firefighting. Thanks to this, the city has made positive changes by preventing damages to forest resources, restricting violations on forest resources, maintaining current areas of forest of the city.
In 2017, the city continues maintaining current areas of forest, strengthening afforestation and green space in the city.
