HCMC to expand cooperation with French localities

On Nov 4, Member of Poliburo and Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan recieved French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe.



In his welcome message to Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and the French high-profile degelation to HCMC, Mr. Nhan highly appreciated the priority of Government of France in strengthening development cooperation in HCMC in the past time.


Mr. Nhan said HCMC has a long history of cultural exchange with France, many French styled archictural projects were built in HCMC such as Municipal Theater, Nortre Dame Cathedral, etc. HCMC is also a place where many French languate speaking people are living and working.

He emphasized that HCMC is now impleemnting many projects with participation of French partners such as PUF under Vietnam National University-HCMC, high quality engineer training program under HCMC University Technology, IDECAF, Marguerite D, Institute of Heart, CMI, etc. Recently, HCMC and Lyon (France) have signed a cooperation agreement in 2018-2020 which promote cooperation in fields of urban area development, lighting, human resource and urban management.

In his brief introduciton of the city, Mr. Nhan welcomes French enterprises to invest in projects such as smart city, human resource to be well-preapred for the Industry 4.0, climate change, wast treatment, etc.  He expressed his hope that HCMC will boost cooperation with French experts to implement a plan on preserving historical-cultural relics such to restore the marks of Saigon-Gia Dinh-HCMC.

For his part, Prime Minister Édouard Philippe thanked leaders, authorites and people of HCMC for their warm welcome. He highly appreciated the cooperation efficiency between France and HCMC in many fields.Mr. Édouard Philippe expressed his hope that HCMC continues supporting the construction of French House and the project of expansion of Marguerite Duras. He expresed his hope to expand and develop cooperation between HCMC and other localities of France.

Previously, Prime Minister Édouard Philippe also attened the opening ceremony of CMI and the French Tech Vietnam Forum. At the opening ceremony of CMI, he said, CMI apart from diagnosis and trement functions is a place for training Vietnamese doctors and nurses. According to Mr. Édouard Philippe, the close coordination between Vietnamese and French doctors and nurses will open opportunities for both sides to share experience and expertise in training activities.

At the French Tech Vietnam Forum, after listening shares of representiatives of Vietnamese startups, Mr. Édouard Philippe stressed that creativity and innovation are key factors for startups. The Government of France commits to support to turn these creative ideas into practical products, to build the startup ecology and accompany small scaled enterprises and startups. At the same day, Mr. Édouard Philippe and the French high-profile delegation left HCMC and ended the official visit to Vietnam.
