At the meeting, a representative of VNPT presented the construction plan including e-government services, smart traffic surveilance camera system, smart parking lots, e-learning, systems of power grid, clean water, environment inspection and waste management, etc.
According to VNPT, till 2013, there have been 20 certified smart cities in the world, the figure was 30 in 2015. It is expected till 2025, there will be 90 smart cities.

Director of HCMC Department of Information and Communications Le Thai Hy said it is necessary to consult local people and businesses about this project because they are directly impacted objects. Besides, the city will mobilize social resources to build “smart city”.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong affirmed HCMC will become a “smart city” till 2025 with 4 basic goals: promoting economic development, better living environment, better services for local people and businesses, authorities under inspection of local people.

He stressed that the “smart city” project should bring a better living environment to local people, they including local citizens and businesses should be provided better services and living standards.

For the roadmap, Mr. Phong said the Steering Committee of Construction will be established at first hand led by Secretary of HCMC Party Committee. The executive board led by Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee will also be establised. It will take 3 months to work out a detailed scheme on smart city.

Mr. Phong requested related units to make efforts in completing a detailed scheme in a period of 3 months to submit to the city, clearly defining the timeline of the scheme till 2020 which a focus should be put on infrastructure and people.
