On October 21, Permanent Deputy Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem received Mr. Jeff Miller, US Congressman, House of Representatives, on his working visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, Mr. Jeff Miller announced his working visit to Vietnam including a stop at Da Nang city to assess the progress of dioxin clean up at Da Nang airport, saying that the dioxin cleanup will be implemented in Bien Hoa Airport (Dong Nai).
Mr. Jeff Miller thanked Vietnam Government for its support in the process of finding the remains of missing US service men in Vietnam. The support has made a good impression in the Vietnam-US relation.
Regarding to Vietnam-US cooperation opportunity, Mr. Jeff Miller said there are many cooperation opportunities for Vietnam and US once TPP is ratified. He expressed his hope that TPP between Vietnam and US will be soon signed in the coming time because it is very important for economic and investment cooperation of US investors in HCMC.
He affirmed that US investors are showing their interest in seeking investment opportunities in Vietnam, including HCMC with a desire to create a practical, effective cooperation value contributing to the development of both countries.
Highly valued the dynamic development of HCMC, Mr. Jeff Miller said HCMC is a dynamic city with a strong attractiveness. He added that he would discuss with US investors to promote US investment in HCMC.
For his part, Mr. Le Thanh Liem said cooperation relation between HCMC and US localities are showing fruitful results including the signing of cooperation relation between HCMC and San Francisco. Mr. Liem also highly valued the establishment of Fullright University in HCMC, saying the university presents an importance of US-Vietnam education and training cooperation.
Till now, US is ranked 12 out of 79 countries and territories investing in HCMC with a total investment capital of US$ 500 million.
Mr. Liem added that the city, with a continuously developed Vietnam-US relation, hopes that positive impacts of TPP once ratified by US Congress will help HCMC receive a new wave of US investment contributing to construction of HCMC an economic center in the region.
“HCMC is willing to create favorable conditions for US investors doing business in the city, HCMC considers success of enterprises as its own”, Mr. Liem said.
