On December 20, HCMC Party Committee held a meeting with intellectuals. The meeting attracted participation of 220 delegates.
The list of attendees includes Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Dinh La Thang, Deputy Secretary Tat Thanh Cang, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong, and Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam.
At the meeting, through their presentations, delegates mentioned about intellectuals’ contributions to the socio-economic development and other problems such as traffic congestion, anti-flooding, environmental pollution, education, health, etc. Besides, they officially suggested the city to establish Scientific Council, organizing a periodical meeting with this council to strengthen scientific management, training emergency specialists (outside hospital), establishing healthcare IT center, strengthening input socialization and managing output, building HCMC into a smart city.
In his closing speech, Secretary Dinh La Thang highly appreciated and expressed his thanks to intellectuals, scientists for their dedication, enthusiasm to the city’s development. Many contributing presentations of intellectuals are useful for working out policies and feasible solutions for pressing issues as well as for scientific-technological development.
Besides, Mr. Thang emphasized the need of addressing the problem that many scientific research projects cannot put into practical application due to lack of appropriate mechanisms. He expressed his hope that intellectuals, scientists, overseas Vietnamese overcome tangible and intangible barriers, call for unity as a family to join hands in making HCMC a bright spot of the nation and the region. He also emphasized the need of effectively implementing the city’s 7 breakthrough programs in accordance with the resolution of the 10th Party Congress of HCMC.
Mr. Thang affirmed that HCMC’s authorities always believe and share difficulties with intellectuals and will coordinate with Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations as well as to assign specific tasks to departments and agencies.
