At the reception, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong said the city is very interesting in calling for investment in traffic and urban infrastructure projects in the city. HCMC has a population of 10 million, due to poor infrastructure, the city is now facing with traffic congestion, traffic accidents, flooding caused by climate change and environmental pollution, outdated waste treatment system (mainly burying). These issues have had impacts on the city’s development as well as living quality of local people.
Mr. Phong said the city needs to complete its urban infrastructure to open more development opportunities and to solve above issues.
He added that the city’s authorities are in negotiation with banks, organizations like WB, ADB, JICA, etc. on loans with preferential interest rate to implement infrastructure projects like Metro line, overpass roads, industrial waste treatment system, et. Mr. Phong expressed his hope that AIIB will support the city to develop these traffic and urban infrastructure projects, affirming the city is willing to cooperate with AIIB to carry out infrastructure projects under form of PPP or direct investment.
