On April 4, Office Manager of HCMC People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan organized a press conference on results of working visit in Japan of delegation of HCMC led by Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong from February 28 to April 28
Strengthen co-operation, calling for investment from Japan
Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong had a talk with Governor and Mayor of Osaka (Japan), saying HCMC will organize a round-table conference “Business Partner City 2016” (BPC-Osaka 2016) on supporting industry. In addition, Vietnam Supporting Industry Exhibition (VSI Expo) will also be organized; HCMC is seeking support from Osaka’s authority in organizing this exhibition and introducing it to Osaka’s enterprises.
Both sides signed an MOU extending priority areas of co-operation between both localities in 2016-2018, especially in fields of economy, environment and water management.
The delegation also made visit to Yokohama, capital city of Kanagawa prefecture. Both sides signed extension of “co-operation agreement” with deep co-operation provisions. HCMC encourages enterprises of Yokohama to invest in fields of sea port, supporting industry, hi-tech industries, human resource.
in a meeting with leaders of Kansai Economic Federation and leaders of Kansai Economic-Trade-Industry Agency, Mr. Phong stressed HCMC would like to invite enterprises of Kansai to invest in Vietnam in fields of supporting industry, hi-tech industries, environment, waste treatment technology.
Promoting infrastructure projects of Japanese ODA
The delegation has worked with Mr. Shigeru Kiyama, Secretary of the State, Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; and Mr. Yoshimitsu Oku, President of Tokyo Metro Company
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong emphasized the importance of contributions of Japanese partners to socio-economic development of HCMC, especially infrastructure development. HCMC hopes to receive ODA from JICA for key projects such as water environment improvement project (Phase 3), Metro lines (3a and 3b)
Wide and deep co-operation with Japan
At the press conference, Mr. Vo Van Hoa said the co-operation between HCMC and localities of Japan will be deeply and widely developed in fields of trade, investment, education, culture, human resource. In order to grasp the investment wave from Japan, HCMC will carry out synchronous measures including consolidation of investment and trade promotion agencies, establishment of specialized units under one-door policy to serve Japanese investors; training highly-skilled laborers, etc.
