HCMC-Netherlands strengthen investment co-operation

On March 7, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received a delegation of Emmen and Hoogeveen cities (The Netherlands) led by Mayor of Emmen city (Drenthe province) Cees Bijl on a working visit to HCMC.


At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong highly valued the friendship and co-operation relation between Vietnam and The Netherlands, including between HCMC with localities of the Netherlands, saying that the co-operation relation has been developed in many fields, especially in environment and climate change.

Giving a brief of HCMC’s socio-economic development, Mr. Phong said HCMC is facing many challenges: underdeveloped infrastructure not matched with rapid population growth, environmental pollution, flooding and climate change with high salinization that has clear impacts on HCMC. HCMC hopes that delegation of Emmen and Hooeveen cities to share experience and to co-operate with HCMC in the above mentioned issues.

On behalf of HCMC’s authority, Mr. Phong commits that HCMC is always accompanying and creating favorable conditions for Dutch enterprises to seek opportunities and to invest in HCMC.

Mr. Cees Bijl highly valued the role of HCMC as a driving force for economic development of the whole country. Beside available strengths of anti-flooding, climate change adaption that the Netherlands is ready for sharing with HCMC, Mr. Cees Bijl said the Netherlands also has strengths in development of ports, logistic services, saying that the working visit aims to strengthen business linkage and promote education co-operation with HCMC. He added co-operation opportunities between both sides are huge when Emmen and Hoogeven cities are industry leaders in the Netherlands. These two cities have big potential and advantages for HCMC’s enterprises to expand their business to European markets.

Mr. Cees Bijl expressed his belief that the friendship and co-operation relation between the Netherlands and HCMC will be more deeply developed in the future.
