In the period of 2016-2020, HCMC works out a target of solving anti-flooding issue for an area of 550km2 and social security for 6,6 million people in 13 centered districts (1,3,4,5,6,7,10,11, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Go Vap) and some other district like 12, Binh Tan, a part of District 2,9, Thu Duc, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon Nha Be; carrying out mechanism and solutions to adapt to climate change.
In order to achieve the above target, HCMC will focus on investing water drainage and wastewater treatment projects for the areas of the Center area, North, North East, South East and South West of HCMC including dredging and improving Tham Luong-Ben Cat – Rach Nuoc Len basin (length of 32km) to upgrade drainage system and urban development for an area of 14,500 hectares worth VND 9,890 billion; dredging and improving Xuyen Tam canal (8,2km) to upgrade drainage system and urban development for an area of 703 hectares worth VND 5,100 billion; constructing 7 wastewater treatment plants and sewer systems with total capital of VND 59,868 billion.
HCMC will construct 8 high-tide control sewers (Vam Thuat, Rach Nuoc Len, Ben Nghe, Tan Thuan, Phu Xuan, Muong Chuoi, Cay Kho and Phu Dinh); 68 smaller culverts, 7km of embankments alongside left bank of Sai Gon river and 12km of embankment alongside right bank of Sai Gon river with total investment capital of VND 12,000.
In addition, HCMC will implement mechanisms, and solutions of regional link to cope with climate change, coordinate with provinces, cities and management units to operate Tri An reservoir and Dau Tieng reservoir on the basin of Dong Nai River and Sai Gon River in the annual rain and flood season, coordinate with Ministries, Departments and localities on the basin of Dong Nai river to protect environment around the basin system of Dong Nai river in the period of 2016-2020.
