(HCM CityWeb)- On September 23, HCMC Party’s Committee-People’s Council – People’s Committee- Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee – HCMC held the 70th anniversary of Southern Resistance War at 23-9 Park, District 1, HCMC. Attending the ceremony including Mr. Le Thanh Hai, Mrs. Ha Thi Khiet, Mr. Le Hoang Quan, Mr. Vo Van Thuong, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nang, revolutionary veterans, Vietnamese heroic mothers, etc.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan highlighted some brilliant milestones of Southern Resistance War, saying that September 23 1945 is a historical day of the nation. Mr. Quan said the Party, soldiers and people of Saigon-Cho Lon-Gia Dinh have brought into play the Southern spirit: “Fatherland’s Bulwark” to overcome every challenge and difficulty to make great victories in the resistance against colonialism, imperialism, contributing to the Southern liberation and national reunification.
This year also marks the 70th anniversary of Southern liberation and national reunification, HCMC has inherited and brought into play the patriotic tradition, solidarity, self-reliance to overcome challenges to achieve outstanding performances. In the last 5 years, HCMC’s economy always maintains a high growth rate with an averaging GDP of 9, 6%/year, 1, 66 times higher than that of the whole country. HCMC is now contributing 21% of GDP, 20% of export quota and 33% to the total State’s budget. HCMC is a top destination for FDI with total investment capital of US$ 30 billion. The city always pays attention to social security policies, improvement of living standards of local people. In 2014, GDP per capita of HCMC reached US$ 5000/year (five times higher than that of 2000). HCMC also pioneers in launching many social programs and movements that put a focus on taking care of families under State preferential policies, the poor, etc.
Mr. Quan stressed that every State cadre, party member and every citizen of HCMC commits to build, develop and protect the beloved city, to make HCMC a modern, civilized, sentimental city to be deserved with the honor of being named after Uncle Ho.
On behalf of HCMC’s youth, Union Secretary of HCMC Law University Nguyen Ngoc Lan Trang expressed: “Remembering the Southern Resistance Day, with an ardent patriotism, an indomitable and resilient will of Southern people and soldiers, we commits to strive to learn, to serve the purpose of family and society, with our intelligence and young power, we will protect and develop HCMC and our country to be deserved as the youth of the city named after Uncle Ho.
