In 2016 – 2020, HCMC continues to implement 39 social housing projects with a total area of 140.41 hectares including over 44,700 social houses
Expressed by representative of HCMC Department of Construction at the talk entitled: “Social housing, status, forecast and solutions” on September 28.
According to HCMC Department of Construction, nearly 480,000 households cannot afford houses or live with their parents and relatives, of whom 80,000 are officials and public servants, 130,000 households displaced due to urban gentrification and are not eligible for compensation or failing to afford commercial houses, 300,000 migrants are in need of renting social houses.
Accordingly, in the period of 2016 – 2020, the city will continue constructing 39 social housing projects on an area of 140.41 hectares with 44,700 units, 8 out of 39 projects are under construction with over 4,200 units, other 12 investment projects are approved (nearly 12,000 units), and the rest 19 are approved with investment policies.
In order to achieve the planned targets, HCMC Department of Construction proposed HCMC to assign People’s Committees of Districts the job of reviewing land funds for adjustment on urban planning, arranging clean land funds to construct social houses for rent, allowing the swab of public land plots with area larger than 1 hectare, using social housing land funds under State’s ownership for leasing
HCMC Department of Construction also provides advice to HCMC People’s Committee to offer preferential loans for businesses to invest social housing; adjusting loan interest rate for home buyers (3-3,5%/year) at minimum term of 20 years, extending time of non-interest bearing payment for borrowers from 6 months to 3 years.
