On December 31, the flag raising ceremony to mark the official formation of ASEAN Community was held in Nguyen Hue Street, District 1. Attending the ceremony included Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Deputy Secretary of HCMC Party’s Committee Tat Thanh Cang, Deputy Chairmen of HCMC People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem and Le Van Khoa, many representatives of Departments, Agencies, foreign Consulates General in HCMC.
ASEAN Community was adopted at the 9th Summit of leaders of ASEAN (Bali, Indonesia, October 2003) and officially established on December 31, 2015 with three pillars: ASEAN Security Community (ASC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and ASEAN Social-Cultural Community (ASCC). The formation of ASEAN aims to further strengthen regional co-operation and connection, to bring deep and wide impacts on lives of people in Southeast Asia region.
As a special city, an economic –cultural center of Vietnam, HCMC will be active in exploiting and effectively implementing bilateral co-operation activities with members of ASEAN, positively implementing trade-investment-tourism promotion activities in HCMC and localities in the region.
