At the reception, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong emphasized that 71 years ago, under leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnamese people has launched the great August revolution and regained national independence, gave birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now Socialist Republic of Vietnam), opened a new age of Vietnamese people – the age of independence, freedom and social progress.

The spirit and will of August revolution 1945 have helped Vietnamese people overcome difficulty and challenges to win the war against enemies, regain independence and national reunification.

Vietnam has so far established diplomatic relations with 187 countries, and economic-trade-investment relations with over 224 countries and territories. Vietnam is also now an active member of 70 international organizations such as United Nation, WTO, ASEAN, APEC, ASEM, etc. As a driving force of economic development with important role in the Southern key economic zone, HCMC always maintains a high growth rate of GDP contributing about 22% to GDP of the whole country, receiving 44% of foreign investment projects, contributing over a quarter of export volume of the whole country. The city has established international cooperation with 41 foreign localities. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong said the city will do its best to improve investment environment, timely remove difficulty for foreign investors.

On behalf of foreign missions in Vietnam, Dutch Consul General in HCMC Simon van der Burg congratulated peoples of Vietnam on this great day. He affirmed that HCMC is the best business and investment destination, all members of foreign missions in HCMC expressed their hope to continue working with leaders of HCMC and contributing to the development of the city.
