Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Department on March 16 organized a poll on train shape, color and interior decoration for the first metro route Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien which is under construction to connect District 1 with Thu Duc.

Mr. Dang Van Khoa, member of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Central Committee, said that carriage designs must suit hot and humid weather in HCMC while inside facilities such as chairs and handrails should be appropriate with Vietnamese stature.

Deputy Chairman of Bridges, Roads and Ports Association Ha Ngoc Truong said that blue carriages are fit for the city’s climate. Because metro speed is about 80 kilometers an hour, the train engine is unnecessary to be tapering. It can be made square as per proposal by the HCMC Urban Railway Management Department.

Train cabin should be made from synthetic resin instead of aluminum alloy to prevent scratches, stains and rusts, he said.

Director General of HCMC Bus Cooperative Alliance Phung Dang Hai proposed to set up bulkheads between the train and passengers on the platform as some countries in the world. When trains arrive at the station, the bulkheads and train doors will open at the same time to receive passengers or let them out.

Mr. Doan Nhu Cuong, deputy head of the HCMC Urban Railway Management Department and director of Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route project, said that all opinions of the city's residents and experts will be synthesized and forwarded to train design units.
