HCMC Chairman works on progress of Hiep Phuoc IZ projects
Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan on May 24 met with authorized agencies on the progress of projects in the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Zone, Nha Be District.
Soai Rap River dredging project has basically done, said the Department of Transport. The route is expected to completely open for traffic by the end of June.
The river has been dredged to the depth of 11.5m, permitting 50,000 ton vessels to reach the Hiep Phuoc Port Complex.
The Soai Rap River dredging project will help reduce the distance from the East Sea to HCM City by about 30 kilometers.
Several important traffic routes in the Hiep Phuoc Ports' surrounding areas have been built. The city will concentrate on construction of metro routes, belt roads and highways to meet cargo transport demand of the ports.
HCMC has set a target to increase the volume of goods going in and out of the Hiep Phuoc Ports to 200-250 million tons per year by 2020.
Chairman Quan instructed the Hiep Phuoc IZ Management Board and relevant agencies to focus on projects to develop the seaport industry, aiming to make Hiep Phuoc a port-based special economic zone.
