HCMC calls for Public – Private Partnership

On January 01, Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong received Mr. Andrew Cainey – Pacific Asia Regional Director of Tony Blair Associates on a working visit to HCMC.



At the meeting, Mr. Phong gave a brief of socio-economic development situation in recent years and development orientation of HCMC in 2015-2020. He said besides achieved results, HCMC is facing challenges related to environmental issues, asynchronous infrastructure which has impacts on economic development.

“HCMC’s FDI total 5. 820 projects worth about US$ 40 billion, so it requires good infrastructure development for economic development of the city, In addition, the city is now focusing on restructuring of enterprises and public-private partnership”, said Mr. Phong. He expressed his hope that Tony Blair Associates support HCMC through calling for public-private partnership (PPP) and attracting FDI.

In his part, Mr. Andrew Cainey highly valued achievements of HCMC and its development strategies in the future. He said HCMC is a country in miniature with big potential and advantages of calling for PPP from foreign investors. Giving a brief of Tony Blair Associates, Mr. Andrew Cainey added the Associates was established by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, providing support on key areas of consulting, enterprise reform, PPP and attracting FDI.

He added Tony Blair Associates is willing to share its experience and provide consultancy services to HCMC in term of attracting FDI and enterprise equitization.
