HCMC Book Street officially opened in Nguyen Van Binh Street (Ben Nghe Ward, District 1) after 03 months of construction.
At the press conference on January 6, Director of HCMC Department of Information and Communications Le Thai Hy said HCMC Book Street provide a long-term and fixed space with promotion activities of books, exchange of learning to develop reading culture. This is a playground of book composers to introduce the best publications to readers, to share experience and passion in book publication, etc. The Book Street is a place for community activities as well as a connection space for book lovers. This is a truly cultural space for book lovers, a unique cultural space of HCMC.
The book street, 144 meter long, is designed to provide lots of activities including: 20 book booths at sidewalks to display, sell books associated with exchanging activities with book publishers, authors and readers. Besides, 02 coffee shops are ready for local people, tourists and readers. The book street is a place for other activities like reading and borrowing books, introducing new books, etc.
The Book Street attracts participation of some famous publishing houses such as HCMC General Publishing House, Kim Dong, Youth publishing house, HCMC Education publishing house and well-known book publishing companies like Nha Nam, Phuong Nam, Dong A, Thai Ha First News, Alphabooks, Le Bros, etc, some collectors of old books, rare books, etc.
On the occasion of opening, from January 1 – February 8, many activities will take place in the Book Street such as exhibition of Tet issues (Lunar New Year) of newspapers and magazines entitled: “Welcome the Party, Spring and the Nation”, exhibition of war resistance poems, New Year cards, old book exhibition, etc.
Especially, at the coffee shops, some activities will be organized suhc as signing between film makers and book makers, dialogue on fantasy book with Vietnamese youths, exchanging with authors who wrote about Saigon.
At the same time, the Book Street arranges a playground for children with activities like reading book, storytelling, puzzles, painting, etc.
The HCMC Book Street is coordinated by HCMC Department of Information and Communication and Vietnam Publishing Association (Southern office) to welcome the success of the 10th HCMC Party Congress and the XXII National Congress.
